Local hotels and restaurants, new and existing are concerned about staffing levels.
Sarasota, Fl November 21, 2016: The SBHC is teaming up with local schools, colleges, and
universities to host a job fair that will take place at USF Sarasota –Manatee on December 13th
from 2:00PM to 5:00PM. With over 1,000 new hotel rooms coming in the next year or so, hotels and
restaurants will be looking for approximately 600-800 new employees to the workforce in a time when
hotels are already trying to gear up for peak season. “We all seem to be in the same boat in the hotel
business. We are continuously looking for qualified employees and we are forecasting a much greater
demand with the new hotels coming to this area” said Rob Ferguson Corporate Director of Sales at
Holiday Inn and Fairfield Inn and Suites. “Sarasota is seeing an unprecedented number of new
hotels opening in the next year creating a fantastic opportunity for individuals to join in the
hospitality business. I hope the public takes this chance to learn of the marvelous opportunities
that exist in hospitality and a convenient one-stop format” said Virginia Haley, President of Visit
Sarasota County. We are excited to see continued growth in the hospitality industry and
expansion of the area’s diverse offerings. “We believe it is never too soon to begin your career in
the hospitality industry and encourage students to pursue internships to get firsthand experience.
Well educated, highly trained and friendly employees will be the difference maker that drive
visitors back to our area time and time again” said Elliott Falcione, Executive Director of the
Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The Hotel Committee is also working with, BACVB, Visit Sarasota, Kaiser University, and several other schools, along with Originals Restaurants to make this happen.
The Sarasota Bradenton Hotel Committee meets monthly to discuss opportunities to bring more tourism to both counties and educate the hotel community.
