The Velveteen Rabbit written by Kevin Del Aguila based on the book by Margery Williams kicked off this family friendly series in FST’s Bowne’s Lab on November 19. Audiences have raved over this magical and imaginative tale with comments such as, “It was wonderful,” “Fantastic,” and “Great show.”

FST Director of Children’s Theatre, Caroline Kaiser, speaks to this exciting announcement stating, “I am so excited to open up additional performances of our Children’s Theatre series. This past Saturday was our first performance, and the response and energy in the theatre was amazing for a Saturday morning. Full of all different kinds of families coming together to share in the magic of live theatre, the joy from the children, parents, and grandparents was palpable. The happiness and warmth filling the theatre at each performance is what it is all about for me.”

All productions of the Children’s Theatre Series will play in Bowne’s Lab Theatre, an intimate and engaging space where children and families can experience imaginative and inventive storytelling. Kaiser concludes, “In the hustle and bustle of our busy lives it’s refreshing to just take an hour or two to spend time together as a family and make lasting memories. With the addition of new performances, I hope FST will be part of those special memories for many more families.”

About Florida Studio Theatre

Known as Sarasota’s Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Artist Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company then acquired the former Woman’s Club building, becoming the first permanent venue. Shortly after Producing Artistic Director Richard Hopkins arrived, the building was purchased and renamed The Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its five theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Gompertz Theatre, the Parisian style Goldstein Cabaret, the John C. Court Cabaret, and Bowne’s Lab Theatre.

Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
