Can’t make it to Brazil? No worries: The Paley Center joins soccer fans from around the planet to enjoy the excitement and drama of thirty-two nations competing in the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ Brazil. Through partnerships with ESPN and ABC, the Paley Center will be screening the games live on the big screen in both New York and Los Angeles, beginning with the opening match (host country Brazil versus Croatia) on Thursday, June 12, and ending with the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ Title Match on Sunday, July 13. There’s no better way to enjoy the World Cup experience than with fellow fans.

Saturday, July 19; 2:00 pm In Person: Ted Chapin, Martin Charnin, Bill Rudman As part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival, the Paley Center pays tribute to Broadway composer Mary Rodgers, who wrote the music for musicals including Once Upon a Mattress (1959), Hot Spot (1963), and The Madwoman of Central Park West (1979), and contributed songs to the Broadway show Working (1978) and the 1970s record album and TV special Free to Be… You and Me. The celebration will include screenings of the 1964 telecast of Once Upon a Mattress and the “lost” 1961 television musical Feathertop, plus an expert discussion of her work.

Monday, July 7 at 7:00 pm In Person: David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash The Paley Center welcomes acclaimed artists and activists David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash to the stage as they celebrate their legendary 1974 tour. We will screen restored concert footage they are releasing in an audio box set as well as rare material from the Paley Center’s collection of the musicians before they formed the trio in 1969. The group will discuss the mood of the country forty years ago as a president was about to resign and talk about how contemporary issues inform their recent music projects.

Reidy as president and CEO; former president and CEO Pat Mitchell named executive vice chair. “There is no better person to lead the Paley Center than Maureen Reidy, and after an extensive nationwide search we were so pleased to select our new president & CEO from within the Paley Center family,” said Frank A. Bennack, Jr., executive vice chairman of Hearst Corporation and chairman of the Paley Center Board. “Having worked with Maureen for the past year, I know that she is absolutely the right leader at the right time for the Paley Center,” said Ms. Mitchell. |

Bennack, Jr., celebrated the 35th anniversary of ESPN and awarded the 2014 New York Paley Prize for Innovation & Excellence to George Bodenheimer and John Skipper.
