Broadway, TV star brings one-of-a-kind program to Metro Detroit |
DETROIT >> Cabaret 313 will present crossover superstar Megan Hilty in an intimate evening of storytelling and song at The Cube at the Marjorie S. & Max M. Fisher Music Center on Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. Tony- and Grammy-nominated Hilty (“Wicked,” “9 to 5: The Musical,” “Noises Off,” NBC’s “Smash”) will veer from her traditional set list to offer metro Detroit audiences a rare glimpse at the woman behind major roles from Broadway to the big screen.
“Megan’s show embodies the essence of cabaret: art, intimacy and storytelling,” C313 Co-Founder and President Sandi Reitelman said. “You should leave feeling as though you’ve spent the evening with a new friend.”
The performance, which caps the Thanksgiving weekend and kicks off the holiday season, features some of the songs and stories representing Hilty’s rise to stardom that has taken her from understudy to “princess of Broadway” (Time Magazine) over the past decade.
Hilty made her Broadway debut in “Wicked” in Fall 2004, and was asked to take over as principal “Glinda” in May 2005. Since then, she has taken the musical theater world by storm with leading roles in “9 to 5: The Musical,” “Noises Off” and “Gentleman Prefer Blondes.” Known for her powerful voice and charming disposition, Hilty landed a leading role in NBC’s musical series “Smash” in 2012. She has made guest appearances on many television shows and movies, including “Bones,” “The Closer,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Project Runway” and “The Good Wife.”
“Every year, we bring in a blockbuster performance, and this year is no exception,” C313 Co-Founder and Executive Director Allan Nachman said. “Megan Hilty is a major Broadway and television star with a broad appeal. We’re excited to present her in a show that she put together just for our audience.”
