New York, NY: Ice Theatre of New York (ITNY) is proud to announce the launch of its 2016/2017 Season by bringing together world-class professional skaters and guest performers at its 2016 Home Season performances on October 28 and 29, 2016 in New York City.
Ice Theatre of New York will be reprising “Back Bay Shuffle,” by Ballet great Edward Villella. This piece is set to the music of Artie Shaw and stars three guys on the prowl.
ITNY will also reprise “Hommage” a piece restaged for the ITNY ensemble by choreographer Florentine Houdinière. This piece was created to honor those who lost their lives in Paris during the 2015 terrorist attacks, as well as the many others who have fallen due to acts of violence throughout the world. This piece acts as a plea for peace and understanding between all people.
ITNY’s Ensemble Director, Elisa Angeli, has created a new piece based on the Company’s Master Edge Class entitled “Crescendo” where the simplest of ice dance edges crescendo in both beauty and difficulty.
The performance will also include “Alberta Biography” an innovative piece choreographed to the sound of birdcalls and originated by renowned Canadian skater/choreographer Gary Beacom. This work will be skated by Eliot Halverson.
Emmy Award winning dance choreographer, Charles “Chucky” Klapow crafted a quartet entitled “Doodlin’,” in which a gang of infamous criminals reminiscence together about their glory days of gettin’ away with it all!
Guest performers include Finnish Champion and European Medalist, Kiira Korpi, who is currently pursuing a modeling career in NYC. 2016 US Open Champion Rohene Ward will skate “Purple Rain”, his award winning tribute to Prince.
