The Fresh Market’s youngest shoppers fight childhood hunger with delicious designs for the 2016 Design Our Bag Challenge! Earlier this year, thousands of creative children channeled their inner artist by answering the question, “What is the best thing about The Fresh Market?” through artwork submissions for the company’s limited-edition reusable shopping bags. The annual competition, which inspires kids of all ages to cook up culinary-themed art masterpieces, benefits No Kid Hungry® — the campaign from the nonprofit Share Our Strength dedicated to ending childhood hunger in America by connecting children to healthy food where they live, learn and play.
After thorough review and multiple rounds of voting, The Fresh Market is delighted to announce this year’s two design winners: Lauren G. from Atlanta, Ga. and Colin S. from University Park, Fla. The winners of the Design Our Bag Challenge received a $200 gift card to The Fresh Market, a kid-friendly goodie basket filled with an artist kit, edible treats, and bragging rights!
Each winning design will be printed on one side of a reusable shopping bag that will be sold at The Fresh Market stores nationwide beginning on October 6. Both Lauren and Colin will also appear at their local The Fresh Market store, 4405 Roswell Road, Atlanta, Ga. and 5251 University Parkway, University Park, Fla., respectively, for a special bag signing event on October 8 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. With the support of its customers, The Fresh Market will contribute 50 percent of the retail price of each limited-edition bag sold to No Kid Hungry, with a minimum contribution of $150,000 this year, funded through Design Our Bag sales, as well as the grocer’s Cupcakes for a Cause campaign.
In total, The Fresh Market has raised over $1 million in support of No Kid Hungry’s effort to connect children in need with nutritious food, while teaching their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals. Since the launch of the partnership, The Fresh Market has helped No Kid Hungry supply 10 million more healthy meals to kids facing childhood hunger, an issue affecting one in five children.
