Tahoe Donner Voted Best Golf Course & Nordic/Cross Country Ski Center
Truckee, Calif. (Wednesday, August 31, 2016) –Tahoe Donner is proud to announce it was chosen as Best Golf Course and Best Nordic/Cross Country Ski Center in 2016. The Best of North Tahoe & Truckee contest is hosted annually by the Sierra Sun and North Lake Tahoe Bonanza to select and honor top businesses and people that live and operate locally.
Each July, residents and visitors nominate and vote online for their favorites across multiple categories including food and drink, recreation, retail, travel and tourism, arts and culture, professional and other services, and local life. This year there were 112 subcategory winners with a record 54,000 votes recorded.
“We feel it’s one of the most important things a community newspaper can do — highlighting and celebrating the people, businesses, places and things that make Truckee/Tahoe such a great place to live, work and play,” said Kevin MacMillan, managing editor of the Sierra Sun and North Lake Tahoe Bonanza.
The Tahoe Donner Golf Course is one of the premier public golf courses in the Sierra Nevada and is rated “excellent” by reviewers on TripAdvisor. Located just minutes off Interstate 80 in Truckee, this 18-hole, 7,002-yard par-72 championship golf course sits on 200 acres of pristine Sierra landscape. Golfers enjoy towering pines featuring stunning views and meandering creeks, granite rock formations, elevation changes and greens so consistently pure they have been recognized as the “Best Greens in the Tahoe Region.”

Voted one of North America’s best cross country ski centers by USA Today’s 10Best.com Readers’ Choice contest earlier this year, Tahoe Donner offers a family-friendly, world-class cross country ski area with over 100 kilometers of trails suitable for all levels of skiers and snowshoers. The recent acquisition of Crabtree Canyon, an alpine valley located northwest of Truckee, will provide 640 additional acres and 16 kilometers of new trails for skiers this winter. Tahoe Donner’s groomed trail system meanders through beautiful meadows and forests; follows bubbling creeks; and climbs for some stunning views of the Sierra Crest. Tahoe Donner also offers a limited number of trails for fat biking, as well as three kilometers of dog-friendly trails. This winter will be the second season of operation for the new Alder Creek Adventure Center. The state-of-the-art, energy efficient facility offers guests streamlined rental services, larger wax and locker rooms, expanded indoor and outdoor seating and a large Nordic retail store, as well as a pub with televisions and a fireplace. Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area is open daily to the public and offers private and group lessons, rentals and signature events throughout the season.
