Venice Theatre announces Education Open House and fall class schedule for children, teens and adults
Venice, FL, Aug. 22, 2016 – What are parents saying about their children’s educational experiences at Venice Theatre? “Because of the work that you do, my son was able to experience something that has forever changed his life and the way he looks at things,” and, “It is without a doubt one of the best things to happen to my son.”
Several Venice Theatre students recently performed in the musical James and the Giant Peach.
For students of all ages looking for a life-changing experience or just a fun activity, Venice Theatre will hold an Education Open House on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the theatre located at 140 W. Tampa Ave. in Venice. The Education and Outreach Department and teaching team will be on-hand to explain the different class offerings, share information about scholarships, and assist families with registration.

For those who prefer to register early, registration is open now for Venice Theatre’s fall 2016 theatre classes. The fall semester begins the week of Sept. 12, 2016 and includes classes for students from kindergarten through adult. Classes run six to 12 weeks and will be taught by instructors Sandy Davisson, Director of Education and Outreach, Kelly Duyn, Assistant Director of Education and Outreach, Becky Holahan, Gary Seddon, Preston Boyd, Gladys Varga, Peter Ivanov, Nethaneel Williams, Gary Thornsberry and Joel Broome.

For the youngest students, there are two creative play classes: Telling Tales! Creative Play for Grades K-1 and Shake It Up! for Grade 2. Both classes are fun-filled adventures into the world of theatre that build students’ self-confidence and social development.
For students in grades three through five and grades six through eight, Venice Theatre offers its popular Act 1: Beginning Acting, Act 2: Intermediate Acting and Act 3: Advanced Acting.  There are also several specialty classes for children and adults including Dance Like You Mean It!, Rattle The Roof! (Drumming with Joel)  and Getting Technical!  From continuing to find the actor’s voice, to skill building techniques, to audition preparation and exploring the back stage, these classes will further anyone’s creative ability. Also back by popular demand is the Between-the-Scenes Series offeringAnything Goes! for Grades 6-12 which is by audition only on Sept.15, 2016 at 5 p.m.
For adult students 18 and older, the theatre is offering some exciting new classes taught by professionals in their fields. Director and actor Peter Ivanov will teach Express Yourself Through Theatre! and Shakespeare’s Sonnets. Another popular offering for adults is Creative Dramatics for Adults with Developmental Challenges, which builds confidence and life skills using theatre exercises and acting study. Gladys Varga and Becky Holahan will be teaching this class. Students who enroll in both the fall and spring semesters will participate in the Loveland Follies in June 2017.
Venice Theatre also offers private lessons for students who are interested in individual one-on-one instruction. Private lessons are customized for individuals who want to advance their acting and/or musical theatre skills.

In addition to seasonal classes, Venice Theatre offers customized programs for Girl Scout and Boy Scout badges as well as a unique Technical Theatre Apprenticeship Program (TTAP). TTAP is a career-track technical training program for students 16 years and older and is accredited by the Florida Department of Education. It is the ideal program for students who are interested in a career in technical theatre.

Venice Theatre is located at 140 W. Tampa Avenue on the island in Venice. The box office is currently open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Beginning Sept. 6, 2016, hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. on Saturday.
