THE PLAYERS PRESENTS: “CYRANO DE BURGERSHACK” BY JEREMY DESMON
(Sarasota, FL) Yes. You read that correctly. From July 13 – 24, The Players Centre for Performing Arts invites you to see (and hear!) the updated retelling of Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac through the fresh eyes of America’s hamburger-loving teenagers in Cyrano de BurgerShack! Cyrano, played by Bronson Byerley, is king of the local Burger Shack, but he can’t seem to win the love of his best friend, Roxanne (Paige Galdieri). When Roxanne confesses her crush on the new burger-flipper, Christian (Storm Tracy) Cyrano decides that playing Cupid is better than sitting out of the game. This rollicking musical features hit contemporary pop songs that will have audiences asking for seconds.
This storyline is old school; however this modern-day musical has been re-imagined and is decidedly new. Created with high schools in mind, audiences will flip for this swashbuckling tale of fast food, love and one very enormous nose! This fun score features lots of new arrangements of hit songs which have been made popular by such artists as Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Madonna, Kelly Clarkson, John Mayer, P!nk, The Bangles, Adele and lots more!
Director Teresa O’Connell remarks, “Cyrano de BurgerShack is a delightful modernization of the classic tale which has been updated with pop songs from the 80s, 90s, and today and also uses 2016 technology–like smartphones. Cyrano de BurgerShack at The Players features a cast of 12 talented teenagers bringing the tale of Cyrano and Roxanne to life on the Sarasota stage through song, dance, humor, and lots of heart.”
