Set For Release On July 8, Wildflower Is Band’s First Album In 16 Years
Today, The Avalanches unveiled the lucid dreamscape “Subways,” a glimpse into a dazzling psychedelic summertime that will take listeners back to the classic grooves of their 2000 debut album, Since I Left You. Sampling the teenage funk-punk of Chandra’s “Subways” and Graham Bonnet’s version of The Bee Gees‘ late period classic “Warm Ride, “Subways” gives fans a third taste of Wildflower, the influential Australian band’s first album in 16 years. “Subways” is available for streaming on Spotify HEREFans who pre-order a digital copy of the album will instantly receive “Subways” plusColours” and “Frankie Sinatra.”  Wildflower is also available in vinyl; all formats can be pre-ordered HERE.

Wildflower set for release on July 8 via Astralwerks in the U.S. –is like The Beach Boys’ Smile re-imagined in the Daisy Age: a mind-bending cartoon road movie that’s best viewed with closed eyes and an open mind. Billboard noted, “The excruciating wait for new Avalanches material is over” and Noisey said, “theirs is the only reunion worth caring about…” Pitchfork praised The Avalanches‘ “wild, trippy new video” for the album’s first single, “Frankie Sinatra,” which features Danny Brown and MF Doom. The clip, directed byFleur & Manu (Drake, A$AP Rocky, M83, Movement, Canyons, Skrillex), racked up more than a million views in the first four days of its release.
“Colours” featuring Jonathan Donahue of Mercury Rev on vocals was named “Best New Track” by Pitchfork upon its release last week. Donahue co-wrote the song with The Avalanches’Robbie Chater and Tony Di BlasiNoisey observed, “what an iridescent, fantastical piece of music it is.” FADER hailed the “entirely sample-free soundscape” as “a return to the heady, prismatic bliss of their masterpiece, 2000’s Since I Left You.” Praising the animated “Colours” video, Rolling Stone noted, “The hypnotic visuals mirror the symphonic layering and manipulated vocal turns that pepper the trippy song.”
