Shaw Festival’s 53rd season officially opens tonight with a Shaw comedy and celebration
– Season to be fêted during opening night festivities –
Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (May 9, 2014) — Arms and The Man by Bernard Shaw, directed by Morris Panych, officially opens the 2014 Shaw Festival season on Friday, May 9 at the Royal George Theatre. The celebrations continue Saturday, May 10 with a double-bill of openings – a matinee performance of The Charity that Began at Home: A Comedy for Philanthropists, directed by Artistic Director Emeritus Christopher Newton, at the Court House Theatre and an evening performance of the musical Cabaret, directed by Peter Hinton, at the Festival Theatre.
This year marks the Shaw Festival’s 53rd season and Artistic Director Jackie Maxwell is “thrilled to be leading off with a rich variety of shows, which already have been garnering huge applause and enthusiasm from preview audiences.”
The Shaw’s Board of Governors Chair Andrew Pringle, Ms.Maxwell and Executive Director Elaine Calder, along with invited guests, supporters and Company members, will toast the official start of the season before enjoying the weekend opening performances.
