Following her time in one of the biggest girl groups in the world, the Pussycat Dolls, ASHLEY ROBERTS has proven herself to be a multi-talented force in entertainment on a global scale. Her most recent endeavor is hosting NBC’s national Emmy-winning travel and lifestyle show “1st Look.” The weekly show, which airs immediately after Saturday Night Live (1am PT/ET Sundays), takes her all across the globe to find the hottest trends in food, nightlife and local activities and excursions. Check out a sampling of what viewers can expect (here) and recent episodes at http://1stlooktv.com.
“I’m having so much fun on the show,” ASHLEY says. “I’ve been canyoneering, snorkeled at a shipwreck and learned to Irish dance all in the same week. I get to dive into other people’s world for a day! Charleston has one of my favorite restaurants (Xiao Bao Biscuit), Bermuda has the bluest water and New Orleans has the coolest vibe. I wouldn’t have known that if it wasn’t for this show. I’m grateful for the experience and excited for what’s next.”
In 2010, upon deciding to leave the Pussycat Dolls after a whirlwind seven years and 54 million records sold worldwide, ASHLEY challenged herself to venture outside of her comfort zone and, as a result, blazed new paths for herself. Following some time off for self-reflection, in 2012 ASHLEY was asked to appear on the U.K. show I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, where fans unexpectedly voted her runner-up, and that lead to a judging slot on U.K. network ITV’s Dancing On Ice competition show and a co-hosting gig on the award-winning variety show Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
“Being in the jungle gave me a new perspective on life,” ASHLEY explains. “I discovered there’s so much to gain if you can get past what you’re afraid of. I applied that to my music. I was determined to do it and make it a success.”
The singer/songwriter/dancer/actress/host uprooted her life in Los Angeles and moved to London to start fresh. Within the walls of London’s famed Metropolis Studios, ASHLEY tirelessly worked with some of pop’s top producers and writers for 12 months, taking time to settle on a sound that would make her songs stand out.
“I didn’t want to end up in a shiny dance-pop box,” she insists. “I like a broad spectrum of music. My dad was a drummer [in the Mamas & Papas], so I grew up with rock, folk, all sorts of sounds. I love hip hop, funk, anything I can groove to. I wanted different songs on the album to reflect different parts of my personality.”
In 2014, she released her debut solo album Butterfly Effect in the U.K., which featured the fierce female empowerment anthem “Woman Up.” She also has an album’s worth of new songs which she will reveal plans for soon. ASHLEY continues to stay busy creatively and is working on shoe collection that she’s conceptualizing from the ground up; each pair is inspired by an aspect in her personal life. More details on the shoe collection will be revealed shortly.
