(Sarasota, FL) — The legendary lyrical talent of Sammy Cahn takes center stage in FST’s first Summer Cabaret production, “Come Fly With Me!” The Sammy Cahn Songbook. With lyrics by Sammy Cahn, music by Jule Styne & Jimmy Van Heusen, this dynamic cast of four will perform from June 14 through July 17 in the John C. Court Cabaret. Subscriptions are available for $39 and may be purchased online at floridastudiotheatre.org or by phone at 941-366-9000.
Celebrating the most recorded lyricist of the 20th Century, FST invites audiences to experience a new sound on the Cabaret stage. According to Producing Artistic Director, Richard Hopkins, “It’s great because we’ve never actually done the Sammy Cahn songbook. This is a group of actors/singers from New York that have put this all together. We forget just how many songs Sammy Cahn actually wrote.”
Take off on this musical journey through the lyrics of Sammy Cahn featuring songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Mario Lanza, Doris Day, Bing Crosby, Jo Stafford and more. Featuring songs such as “Come Fly with Me,” “Three Coins in the Fountain,” “High Hopes,” and “All the Way.”
Guiding audiences on the flight through this supersonic musical revue is singer, actor, comedian, and impressionist, Perry Lambert. According to Lambert, “Every year younger and younger people discover these songs and the artists that made them famous. They will always be around because they stand the test of time. Sammy’s lyrics speak a universal truth of love, sadness, joy, and loss…or as one person described it; ‘The soundtrack to people’s memories.’”
Crooning right alongside Lambert are fellow cast members Samantha Dunn, Mindy Montavon, and David Zack. Dunn’s regional and touring credits include Suds, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Urinetown. Montavon has previously been seen in Lucky Stiff, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Unnecessary Farce, Run for Your Wife, and The Owl and the Pussycat. Zack’s previous credits include Sweet Smell of Success, Golden Apple and Wonderful Town, Panama Hattie, Rocky Horror at Rockwell and Little Shop of Horror, Evita, Guys and Dolls, and Pirates of Penzance.
Get to know the man behind some of the most beloved songs in American music in FST’s first Cabaret show of the Summer season. “Come Fly With Me!” The Sammy Cahn Songbook runs from June 14 through July 17 in the John C. About Florida Studio Theatre
Known as Sarasota’s Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Artist, Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company then acquired the former Women’s Club building, becoming the first permanent venue. Shortly after Producing Artistic Director Richard Hopkins arrived, the building was purchased and renamed The Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its five theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Gompertz Theatre, the Parisian style Goldstein Cabaret and John C. Court Cabaret, and Bowne’s Lab Theatre.
Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
