Fairfax, VA – May 6, 2016 – Transcendent pop-rock four piece, The Downtown Fiction has teamed up with Billboard to exclusively premiere their new music video for “Hepburn Shades” today! Watch “Hepburn Shades” on Billboard, here: http://bit.ly/1T4UdHK
Describing the treatment for “Hepburn Shades” vocalist/guitarist Cameron Leahy explains – “For the “Hepburn Shades” music video, we wanted to portray the song’s protagonist, played by Matilda Lutz, lost and locked out of her car, literally at odds with herself. The song focuses on modern nihilism, the glorification of death and the struggle to find optimism in a world that thrives on a suffocating brand of irony, condemning anyone who really tries. We shot the video in the desert, a backdrop for her desolation and desperation, that inner conflict. It was fun to watch her just let go and capture the moment in such an epic environment.”
The Downtown Fiction’s most recent release, Alligator Tears, is now available for purchase on iTunes and to stream on Spotify!
Since the beginning, The Downtown Fiction has risen with their unique brand of transcendent rock, staking their place in the pop-rock genre. Its newest self-produced EP, 2016’s Alligator Tears, displays the band’s penchant for pushing songwriting boundaries and continuing to evolve while always retaining their hard-hitting vitality. This is immediately clear on the fiery opener, “Let’s Fade Away”, a sinister barrage of fuzz-driven, psychedelic pop. Songs like the kaleidoscopic, bass-thumping “Van Gogh Colors” and the reflective escapism of “Hepburn Shades” are further examples of a constantly growing band in touch with the spontaneity and exhilaration of creative experimentation. That energy, a product of the band’s rock focus and sharp-edged lyrics, has defined TDF from its start in 2008.
Since then, they’ve toured internationally with acts like All Time Low, Yellowcard, The Ready Set, We The Kings & The Summer Set, appearing on Bamboozle Roadshow, Glamour Kills Tour & Warped Tour. The band has released four EPs and two full-length albums, 2014’s Losers & Kings and 2011’s Let’s Be Animals, spawning the hit “I Just Wanna Run” which was certified RIAA Gold in 2015 and boasts a video that’s racked up more than 7.8 million views. That song’s chugging guitars, hard-hitting drums and catchy harmonies not only made it a perfect fit for placement on Jersey Shore and in the video game Rock Band-it exemplifies the band’s zeal for genuine rock & roll. The same vibe permeates Losers & Kings, especially the classic-sounding track “Some Place On Earth.” The majestic song begins with a confident marching drum and quickly explodes into a celebration of dynamic guitars, pulsating bass and ringing keyboards for good measure.
With a roster of songs that are, by turns, hard-driving, happily defiant and anthemic, the Virginia quartet has produced several breakthrough albums that open a window onto their own and a generation’s scattered dreams, urges and fantasies.
