The Prism Prize is pleased to announce the recipient of the Arthur Lipsett Award is Kristof Brandl, who is also a Prism Prize Top Ten nominee this year as the director for Le Fantôme by Monogrenade.

Born and raised in Montreal, Kristof Brandl entered the world of filmmaking at just 17 years old. His first short film Pop Le Cheval – planned as a test on a DSLR – was widely acclaimed and became a Vimeo Staff Pick. Kristof Brandl has since developed an uncompromising signature style creating music videos for artists such as Nikki Yanofsky, Zedd, Point Point, The Shoes, and Majid Jordan.

“As a director and DOP, Kristof is a storyteller with a distinct style and great imagination. He is a true auteur, and one of Canada’s most inventive filmmakers. We are proud to award Kristof with the 2016 Arthur Lipsett Award,” said Louis Calabro, Director of Prism Prize.

The Arthur Lipsett Award, presented by MuchFACT, recognizes a Canadian music video artist for their innovative and unique approach to music video art. Arthur Lipsett was a Canadian filmmaker best known for his sound collage films made for the National Film Board of Canada in the 1960s. Lipsett’s unique approach to editing sound and image earned much attention, as well as an Oscar Nomination in 1962 for the film Very Nice, Very Nice.

MuchFACT supports the Canadian music community through funding and promotion of music videos and related music content for all media platforms, and is exclusively funded by Much & M3, divisions of Bell Media Inc.

On Sunday, May 15 the Prism Prize Screening and Awards Presentation at TIFF Bell Lightbox will include a screening of the Top Ten videos, and award presentations including: the $10,000 Grand Prize for best Canadian music video of the year; the Audience Award (presented by Noisey Canada); the Special Achievement Award (presented by FYI Music News); and the Arthur Lipsett Award for innovative and unique approaches to music video art.
