Los Angeles, CA – Grinding forth with a new kind of party anthem is Canadian duo Botnek, who deliver a sinister broadcast with their latest “Clickbait.” Originally debuted Friday via an elaborate April Fools’ Day stunt, the dark and driving tune cranks all the gears, playfully experimenting with different vocal and sound distortions for a grimy electro-tinged speaker rattler. The track is the first single from Botnek’s forthcoming Dim Mak EP, Connecting? The duo recently sat down with Dancing Astronaut to discuss “Clickbait” and Connecting?’s overall themes of technological dependence, isolation, and the screen as a means of connecting with society. Ever since winning a Dim Mak remix contest for Felix Cartal’s single “Skeleton” in 2010, Botnek has consistently cranked out hot hits and gained support from dynamite DJs like Avicii, Tiësto, Hardwell, Pete Tong, Afrojack, Skrillex and A-Trak. The duo immediately gained global buzz with a BBC Radio 1 In New DJs We Trust premiere of their first single “Jerpa” (from debut EP Plonk), and followed up with what Thump hailed “possibly the best name for an EP” – their Dim Mak debut Sriracha & Beer (2012).
Fast-forward to 2014 when they tore up the scene with several back to back hits – their remix of The Chainsmokers’ “#SELFIE” has collected over 4 million plays across SoundCloud and YouTube, while their collaboration with 3LAU on “Vikings” spent weeks on Beatport’s Electro chart, conquering the #6 spot during its residency. And let’s not forget about “Grindhouse,” the gory, horror-tinged Halloween anthem that received remix treatment from label head Steve Aoki.
More recently, the tandem was handpicked by Zedd to be the sole collaborator on his True Colors album, unveiling their aggressive, keyboard-centric record “Bumble Bee,” of which YourEDM said, “Though it’s hard to pick a breakout track on the album, ‘Bumble Bee’ certainly leads the pack.” Trailing this accolade the boys returned to Dim Mak with the tough yet melodic vocal record “Tremors,” which became the duo’s most successful record on Spotify to date, racking up over 3.5 million plays on the service.
