County Mobility Hearing Tuesday
This Tuesday, April 5 at 6:30 pm at the County Commission meeting room in Sarasota, the Sarasota County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on staff’s proposed amendments to the Mobility Chapter of the Sarasota County Comprehensive Plan.
This is the first of several hearings on the overall Comprehensive Plan Update. After the Planning Commission adds any suggested changes, there will be hearings of the County Commission.
Bad changes being proposed by staff include:
Lowering the acceptable level of service on County roads from C to D. This is part of a move to accept traffic congestion.
Promoting a “Complete Streets” plan that includes Road Diets, such as the proposal being considered by the City of Sarasota to narrow part of Fruitville Road east of US 41 from four to two lanes.
Starting the process of eliminating concurrency, the important requirement that developers provide traffic studies and pay their proportionate share of any road improvements needed in excess of impact fees.
Concerned citizens should appear and oppose any change such as this that would increase the traffic congestion which threatens our quality of life.
