Parson’s Nose Concludes their 16th Season with
As You Were: Stories and Songs for GIs in WWII
an original production by Lance Davis
April 16 –May 8
Parson’s Nose Theater (PNT), the acclaimed classical comedic theater company, concludes its 16th Season with As You Were: Stories and Songs for GIs in WWII. This 90-minute show is an original production from Artistic Director, Lance Davis, based on a 1943 “knapsack” book of American tales.
“These are American works the critic Alexander Woollcott put into a book for our troops in World War II, “ says Davis. “It’s a sampling of great American writing, including stories that are funny, touching, and inspiring. Picture a 20 year old, far from home, sitting in a trench or hospital and being reminded of why he or she was fighting, through the works of Twain, Whitman, and O. Henry. They’re works that deserve to be known and celebrated by all Americans, especially in these times.”
Adapted works include “The Duke and the Dauphin Come Aboard” by Mark Twain, “Address Unknown” by Kathrine Kressmann Taylor, “The Skylight Room” by O. Henry, and songs from the era.
Parson’s Nose will be holding a book drive in conjunction with their performances of As You Were to donate books to men and women currently serving in the U.S. Military.
All stage adaptations are by Artistic Director, Lance Davis. The As You Were company includes Lance Davis, James Calvert, Marisa Chandler, Jill Rogosheske, Barry Gordon, Paul Perri, and Eric Babb. Costumes by Holly Willaume. Set by Jen Orsini.
