Under a sky so blue that it matched the beautiful gulf waters of Sarasota, The New College of Florida once again presented one of the most fashionable and anticipated events of the year…the 2016 Pique Nique Sur la Baie Luncheon.

The ultra-chic upscale garden party is always elegant and stylish, but what makes it unique in the Pique-Nique tradition…the hats. Wearing a hat is like getting into a costume and it makes a statement. With so much creativity and enthusiasm, hats were decorated in a full spectrum of vibrant colors. There is something special about a woman wearing a hat. She is sophisticated, whimsical, graceful and feminine and gives a certain dignity to the event.

Following a champagne reception where we mixed, mingled and perused a silent auction, we were escorted down the regal staircase to our seats. A delicious luncheon was provided by Michael’s on East Catering, followed by an amazing and memorable fashion show. The attractive models, the stunning outfits, aerial acts and this year’s added attraction…the majestic horses from the Sarasota County’s Mounted Patrol made their appearance throughout the show with thunderous applause from the audience.

It was an afternoon so pleasing to the eye and palate, so memorable and entertaining and it still succeeded in raising funds to benefit The New College and the Jane Bancroft Cook Library.

Our “hats off” to the outstanding committee, sponsors and donors who made this afternoon possible.

As a second time attendee, I again simply say “Merci Beaucoup”!
