Asolo Play Readers to bring MacDonald’s works to life at county libraries in ‘One Book, One Community’ program 
SARASOTA COUNTY – As part of Sarasota County’s ongoing “One Book, One Community” celebration, the Asolo Repertory Theatre Guild Play Readers will perform theatrical readings of excerpts from this year’s featured author, John D. MacDonald, at several county libraries.
The performances will bring to life the writings of MacDonald, a prolific novelist and short story writer who lived and worked in Sarasota from 1952 until his death in 1986. MacDonald completed 78 books across several genres, including thrillers and science fiction. He is most well-known for his 21-book Travis McGee crime thriller series and his novel “The Executioners,” which was adapted into the film “Cape Fear.”
The Asolo Play Readers’ performances at Sarasota County libraries include:
  • 2 p.m. March 17 at Fruitville Public Library, 100 Coburn Road, Sarasota
  • 2 p.m. April 1 at Jacaranda Public Library, 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd., Venice
  • 2 p.m. April 8 at North Port Public Library, 13800 S. Tamiami Trail, North Port
  • 2 p.m. April 11 at Selby Public Library, 1331 First St., Sarasota
  • 6:15 p.m. April 14 at North Sarasota Public Library, 2801 Newtown Blvd., Sarasota
  • 3 p.m. April 18 at Gulf Gate Public Library, 7112 Curtiss Ave., Sarasota
