Hub Theatre Company of Boston opens its highly anticipated fourth season with Yasmina Reza’s Tony-award winning play ‘ART’ starring John Geoffrion, Bob Mussett and Victor Shopov at First Church in Boston, Friday, April 8 through Saturday, April 23, 2016.

What is art, what is friendship, and which is more important? Life-long friends Serge, Marc and Yvan are about to find out! After Serge spends a small fortune on an unusual piece of modern art, he expects Marc and Yvan to be as excited as he is. Instead, words fly and sparks ignite as the men square off over the canvas. Lines are drawn (both literally and figuratively) and their ensuing battle grows to encompass not just the painting but past failures and personal failings. With white-hot wisecracks and discerning commentary, ‘ART’ is a sophisticated, humorous and provocative evening of theatre.

IRNE award nominee Daniel Bourque directs a talented trio of Boston’s finest actors: John Geoffrion (IRNE award winner), Bob Mussett (IRNE award nominee) and Victor Shopov (IRNE and Elliot Norton award winner) in this wickedly contentious and wildly comedic play that will keep you pondering the significance of friendship and the value of art long after you leave the theatre.

Recipient of the Molière Award for her debut novel Conversations after a Burial (1987), renowned French playwright Yasmina Reza is known for her nuanced writing style and ability to reveal her characters in the mundane circumstances of every-day life. Her play ‘Art’ premiered in Paris in 1994, again earning her the Molière Award for Best Author. Since then the play has been performed worldwide in over 30 languages and has won both the Laurence Olivier Award and Tony Award for Best Play. In 2009 she again won the Tony award for Best Play for God of Carnage. Reza’s most recent novel Happy are the Happy, was published in 2015 to critical acclaim.

Hub Theater Company of Boston was founded in 2012 to foster creativity among Boston’s emerging theatre artists and as a means to help break down barriers between audience and art.
