Underneath the Lintel, starring Jeremy Guerero, Opens March 31
Four performances only at the Glenridge Performing Arts Center
[Sarasota, FL: March 8, 2016] An eccentric librarian finds a weather-beaten book in a return bin—and discovers that it is 113 years overdue. Sparked by a message left in its margins, he sets off on a quest to unravel the secrets of the book and the person who borrowed it. The riveting story of Underneath the Lintel, a play by Glen Berger, is a one-man show. The librarian follows a chain of clues, from the hallways of his library to the corners of the globe and dates back thousands of years.
Underneath the Lintel, directed by Peter Ivanov and starring Jeremy Guerero, opens for a series of four performances starting on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 8 PM in the Glenridge Performing Arts Center (7333 Scotland Way, Sarasota.) Remaining performances take place Thursday, Mar 31; Friday, Apr 1; and Saturday, Apr 2, all at 8 PM. There will be one matinee on Sunday, Apr 3 at 2 PM. Underneath the Lintel was first produced in 2001 in Los Angeles by The Actors’ Gang theatre company. Brent Hinkley directed and Brian T. Finney played the Librarian. It was produced later that same year in New York at the Soho Playhouse. Scott Morfee, Tom Wirtshafter and Dana Matthow were the producers, with Randy White directing. The play ran for 450 performances, and was voted among the Top Ten Plays of the Year by Time Out NY magazine. T. Ryder Smith played the Librarian, and received a Drama Desk Award nomination that year as Outstanding Solo Performer.
This Glenridge PAC production has been co-produced by Ben Turoff and Peter Ivanov. The two have been friends and occasional collaborators since their youth.
Peter Ivanov, director, co-producer – Peter Ivanov, the son of European circus stars and was born on the Ringling Bros. Circus train, started as a child acrobat in the family act who went on to earn his B.A. Comprehensive degree from Western Illinois University and his M.F.A. from the Asolo Conservatory. He has had a diverse acting career and has directed over one hundred productions. He was the Founding Artistic Director of Theatre Works of Florida, Associate Artistic Director of Sarasota Actors Theatre, Partner and Producing Director of Golden Years Productions, and the Artistic Director of the Youth Opera of the Sarasota Opera Company.
