Anna Vogelzang is thrilled to announce the release of her new album Hiker, due out May 6th via Paper Anchor Records. Produced by Todd Sickafoose (Anais Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, Andrew Bird) in the hills of Eugene, Oregon, Hiker is the record that she has been working towards for the last ten years of her career. “This album sounds most like myself,” she expresses, “most like the thing I’ve been striving for. It is the project that makes me feel like I am stepping over a threshold.” These statements are confirmed with striking title track “Hiker,” available to stream alongside the
BandCamp pre-order, and the single “Bear”, premiered today via Relix who note that Vogelzang has long been “winning fans through her warm, engaging folk-pop.” This spring and summer Vogelzang will tour in support of Hiker, including dates at SXSW 2016, where she will also speak on the “Creative Convergence: Artists As Labels” panel on Thursday, March 17th in the Austin Convention Center. This coming May Vogelzang will also co-host The Grid 101 as part of

“The Wisconsin troubadour has a penchant for playfulness when it comes to her music; however, when she gets serious, few craft a better folk song.” – The Huffington Post
“Every now and again, a folk-pop artist emerges with a universally warming sound that takes over the airwaves and attracts everyone from tweens to full blown adults, using smart and often G-rated lyrics over heartening melodies. Think along the lines of of Ingrid Michaelson and Brandi Carlile. Enter Anna Vogelzang.” – Blackbook Magazine
Anna Vogelzang has been making songs since 2000, playing them in public since 2003, and driving them around the country since 2007. Her melody-driven, multi-instrumental folk-pop ballads have been met with warm reviews (9/10, PopMatters) and landed her at festivals, conferences, and on bills with some of her heroes, including Sara Bareilles, Gillian Welch, Mirah, Anais Mitchell, Laura Gibson, Wye Oak, Steve Poltz, Mason Jennings, Amanda Palmer, and many more. Anna has spent much of the recent past touring in support of her latest EP,
Driftless, a home-spun, steadfast collection of gritty new-folk songs, many of which were written in 2014 as part of the song-a-week project
RealWomenRealSongs.
In April of 2015, after writing more than 70 songs in 15 months, Vogelzang joined producer Todd Sickafoose in the studio to embark upon her fifth LP, Hiker. Joined by percussionist and multi-instrumentalist Shane Leonard (Field Report), the trio recorded 12 songs, hand-picked by Sickafoose, in one week as a live band. The lush, sonic landscape explores the identity of being a human in nature, the animal nature of being alive, and the search for home. It’s about traveling onward and self-sufficiency and love and family and fear and grit.
At home in Wisconsin, Vogelzang is a band coach as well as a voice and songwriting instructor at Girls Rock Camp Madison. She also runs songwriting workshops for local area schools and community groups. In 2012, Vogelzang founded Wintersong, a holiday event that has raised more than $26,000 for Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin since its inception. The seasonal revue has featured PHOX, Count This Penny, Vogelzang, Corey Mathew Hart, and more.
