(Boston)  Celebrity Series of Boston will present Binge-Worthy Journalism: Backstage with the Creators of SERIAL, Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 8pm at Symphony Hall, 301 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston.

Tickets start at $45, and are available online at www.celebrityseries.org, by calling CelebrityCharge at (617) 482-6661 Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., or at the Symphony Hall Box Office, 301 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston.

This appearance will mark the Celebrity Series of Boston debut for both Koenig and Snyder.

After it launched in the fall of 2014, Serial became the fastest podcast to reach 5 million downloads in iTunes history. Co-created by veteran radio journalists and producers, Sarah Koenig & Julie Snyder, Serial quickly went on to become the most popular podcast in the world. At a time when being first and being fast dominates the media, and quick sound bites are offered at every turn, Serial did exactly the opposite: in Season One, it presented a 12-part series centering about one legal case, taking its time and proving that slow-motion journalism could captivate and sustain its vast podcast listenership.

In their live presentation, Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder will take the audience backstage in the creation of this cultural phenomenon.  Using some of their favorite tape, they’ll tell personal behind-the-scenes stories, explain how they constructed certain episodes, and allow the audience to follow the ups and downs of creating a new form of modern journalism.

Sarah Koenig worked for more than ten years as a producer of This American Life before she and Julie Snyder started Serial. She’s guest-hosted TAL several times, most memorably for the “No Coincidence, No Story” show. She’s produced and reported some of TAL’s most popular shows, including “Switched at Birth,” “Dr. Gilmer and Mr. Hyde,” “Petty Tyrant,” and “Habeas Schmabeas,” a Peabody Award-winning show about Guantanamo Bay. Before joining This American Life in 2004, Sarah covered criminal justice and was a State House reporter at The Baltimore Sun and the Concord Monitor in New Hampshire.

Julie Snyder created Serial with Sarah Koenig. She’s also the Senior Producer of This American Life, which she runs side by side with Ira Glass, setting the editorial agenda of the program, but also overseeing and editing hundreds of individual stories and episodes. She’s been with the show since 1997 – almost from its inception- and has produced many of This American Life‘s most entertaining and ambitious episodes, including “24 Hours at the Golden Apple,” “Notes on Camp,” and the Peabody-winning episodes “Harper High School.”
