(Sarasota, FL) Feel the Bern SRQ, a grassroots organization that supports and campaigns for presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, is hosting a “March and Rally for Bernie,” Saturday, January 23, 12:30-4 p.m., in downtown Sarasota. This march is part of a nationwide day of marches for the candidate. Area participants should gather at the bus terminal in downtown Sarasota (Lemon Avenue and First Street) at 12:30 p.m. The march will proceed from there to the “Unconditional Surrender” statue in Island Park, with stops along Main Street. According to local facilitator, Mark Manning, participants should bring “their Bernie signs and their boundless enthusiasm for social justice and positive change.” Manning adds that a rally will occur at 1 p.m. at the statue, “complete with a soap box and bullhorn. This is the chance to get your voices heard and let the nation know that Sarasota strongly stands behind Bernie Sanders as our next president.”
Manning explains that the event will feature Sanders’ supporters speaking about the “topics Bernie and we believe in, including balancing income inequalities, affordable education, changing racial injustice, health insurance for all, addressing militarized police and more.” He adds that there will be a canopy set up for voter registration, with Bernie buttons and other merchandise.
Manning says the Feel the Bern SRQ was started in July 29, 2015, and is an active force in vigorously campaigning for Senator Bernie Sanders with voter registration, social media, canvassing and public events.
“The Sarasota region is home to many thousands of people who want to support a politician who is principled, honest, straightforward, and consistent in his policies over his career. He means what he says and holds a deep ideological belief of equality driving his political directives. We’re determined that Bernie Sanders will be our next president,” says Manning.
