Looking for a way to deepen your involvement with Asolo Rep?

Have you used the entirety of your IRA required minimum distribution yet?

For the past two years, Congress has retroactively passed this remarkable opportunity which allows eligible taxpayers to use a portion or the entirety of their IRA required minimum distribution to benefit charities. Although this law has not been approved by Congress yet, the legislation should be approved within the next 24 hours and become a permanent fixture of our tax code.

Here are the details:

  • Eligible taxpayers will have until December 31st to give up to $100,000 from their IRA to charity.
  • To take advantage of this provision, the taxpayer must be at least 70 ½ or older and the distribution must go directly to a qualifying charity.
  • The distribution can be treated as the taxpayer’s “required minimum distribution” either in-part or in its entirety. While a qualifying distribution is not subject to federal income tax, it will also not count as a charitable deduction. Not having to report the IRA distribution as ordinary income makes it essentially 100% deductible.
  • The distribution must be made directly from your IRA custodian to a public charity or community foundation and can be designated for unrestricted use, a designated fund, a scholarship fund or a field-of-interest fund.
  • Please note IRA distributions made to a donor advised fund or supporting organization will not qualify for this special tax treatment.

By David Ives
Adapted from the comedy by Pierre Corneille
Directe
d by Justin Lucero

“What’s the funniest play ever written? I used to think it was Noises Offbut now that I’ve seen The Liar, I’m not so sure.”
— Terry Teachout, The Wall Street Journal

“astonishingly fresh, funny, and totally appealing to modern audiences”

— Washington Examiner

“If there’s anything half as entertaining as The Liar onstage hereabouts, I’d be obliged if someone would let me know about it.”

— Washington City Paper

The charming and handsome Dorante is a compulsive liar who thrives on telling extraordinary tales and passing them off as truth. Upon his arrival home in Paris, Dorante quickly falls for the lady Clarice—and just as quickly confuses her name with her friend’s, Lucrece’s. With the help of Cliton, his newly hired servant who cannot tell a lie, Dorante mistakenly pursues Lucrece, thinking her to be Clarice. Meanwhile, Clarice is secretly engaged to his best friend Alcippe, who is overwrought and enraged by misguided stories that Clarice was seen with another man. Chaos ensues and mistaken identities abound as Dorante lavishes lie upon lie in a comedy rife with rampant emotions, passionate love, and unending humor.
