Ringling College Willis Smith Gallery Presents Amer Kobaslija – A 10-Year Survey
On display from January 15–February 20, 2016

Opening Reception: Friday, January 15, 4:30 – 7:00 pm

Sarasota, FL – Ringling College of Art and Design is pleased to present Amer Kobaslija – A 10-Year Survey, a selection of over two dozen large and small-scale paintings exploring a variety of subjects that have occupied the artist’s attention over the past decade. Curated by Ringling College Galleries Chief Curator Mark Ormond, the exhibition will include views of Kesennuma, Japan where the tsunami came ashore in 2011, paintings of the artist’s studio, Balthus’ studio and Switzerland, miniature paintings, and Florida landscapes.

Kobaslija graduated from Ringling College in 2003 with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking. Since earning his MFA at Montclair School of the Arts at MSU, he has launched a career as a successful fine artist and is represented by galleries in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Paris. His works have been reviewed by The New York Times, Art in America, ArtNews, New York Magazine, and The San Francisco Chronicle.

In 2013, Kobaslija was awarded the prestigious John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship for his on-going project painting the tsunami-devastated town of Kesennuma, Japan and its reconstruction. Currently on sabbatical from his teaching position at Gettysburg College, Kobaslija lives with his wife Akiko and their dog Tito in New York, and also maintains a studio in Jacksonville.
