Jazz Club of Sarasota presents world-class musicians for Jazz at Two concerts in December:

December 2–Allan Vache, Johnny Varro & Mark Neuenschwander;

December 11–Tom Carabasi’s Samba Jazz Quartet

 

SARASOTA, FL: The Jazz Club of Sarasota presents its last two Jazz at Two concerts of 2015 with world-class musicians on Friday, Dec., 2, and Friday, Dec. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3975 Fruitville Road. Admission, set at $10 for Jazz Club members and $15 for guests, includes a one-dollar contribution to the Jazz Club Scholarship Fund, according to Peg Pluto, Jazz Club president. The Jazz Club resumes this popular concert series in 2016 with four concerts in January and continues its performances through Friday, April 15, 2016.

The December concerts feature perennial Jazz Club favorites.

 

December 4: ALLAN VACHE,  JOHNNY VARRO & MARK NEUENSCHWANDER 

Renowned clarinetist Allan Vache performed numerous engagements from 1972-1975 with such jazz greats as Bobby Hackett, Gene Krupa, Dick Hyman, Clark Terry, Dick Wellstood, Ed Hubble, Cliff Leeman, Bob Haggart and Jack Lesber. He overlapped his gigs by appearing with an onstage band in Doctor Jazz on Broadway. Alan has also made numerous appearances with his brother, jazz cornetist/trumpeter Warren Vache, Jr.  Swing-jazz pianist Johnny Varro first played professionally on an East Coast tour with Bobby Hackett in 1953 and became intermission pianist at Eddie Condon’s from 1957 through the mid-60s. An Arbors artist, he has been active in Miami and more recently I California. He has recorded and tours with the Swing 7. Florida-based Mark Neuenschwander has played with over 140 national Broadway touring shows and such major performers as Billy Eckstine, Cab Calloway, Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, The Florida Orchestra, Andrea Bocelli, Herb Alpert, Yanni, Chick Corea, The Moody Blues and the 5th Dimension. He is on the faculty of St. Petersburg College and has also taught at USF, Southeastern University and Eckerd College among others.

 

December 11: TOM CARABASI AND HIS SAMBA JAZZ QUARTET

Drummer Tom Carabasi presents Brazilian and jazz standards with a unique flair and the talented assistance of Patrick Bettison, keyboard; Alejandro Arenas, bass; and Perry Childs, saxophone. Besides being a musician, Carabasi is also head of the photography department at Ringling College of Art and Design.

The Jazz Club of Sarasota, founded in 1980, is one of the most active jazz clubs in the United States.
