SANTA FE CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL
ANNOUNCES 1st ANNUAL
MUSIC & WINE GALA – JULY 22

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Santa Fe, NM – The Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival is proud to announce an event where you can hear your favorite chamber musicians, enjoy an exquisite four-course dinner under the stars, and drink fine wines in the company of renowned vintners: the first annual Music & Wine Gala on July 22, 2014.

This special evening begins at 6:00PM with a private performance by violinist William Preucil, cellist Mark Kosower and pianist Jon Nakamatsu, at St. Francis Auditorium in the New Mexico Museum of Art. After the concert, guests will move on to La Posada Resort and Spa for an elegant cocktail reception and gourmet four-course dinner held “al fresco” in La Posada’s beautifully landscaped, tented Lawn Court.

PhotoEach course will be sensitively paired with exceptional wines, including two wines from Arietta. Arietta’s label features the manuscript of Beethoven’s Arietta movement from his last Piano Sonata, Opus 111, written long after the composer had lost his hearing. Opus 111 is one of the most transporting and revolutionary pieces of music ever composed. Serene yet complex, rich yet ethereal, Beethoven’s Arietta provides an inspirational model for great winemaking.

The cornerstone of the Music & Wine Gala will be a silent auction of wines donated by private collectors and high-end wineries, located in La Posada’s beautiful Montaña Ballroom. The silent auction also includes one-of-a-kind experiences, such as exclusive getaways and special offers from some of Santa Fe’s finest restaurants (please see the current list below).

The evening concludes with an exciting live auction led by Fritz Hatton, one of the nation’s leading wine auctioneers and owner of Arietta Wines.

Tickets are $600 per person and include a $375 tax-deductible donation to the Festival. All proceeds from the event benefit the Festival’s year-round musical education programs for children in the Santa Fe community. For more information, please call Allison Hooper at 505.983.2075, ext. 111.

ABOUT ARIETTA

Arietta, an ultra-premium Napa winery specializing in limited production Bordeaux-style blends, is owned by wine specialist and auctioneer Fritz Hatton and his wife Caren. One of America’s most celebrated winemakers, Andy Erickson, crafts the Arietta wines from carefully chosen vineyard blocks in the cooler climates of Napa Valley. The Arietta wine portfolio currently consists of four red wines—H Block Hudson, Variation One, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Quartet—and one white wine, On The White Keys.

The Hattons founded Arietta in 1996 in partnership with winemaker John Kongsgaard and his wife Maggy. The partnership was born of a shared passion for fine wine and classical music.

ABOUT FRITZ HATTON

Fritz Hatton is the one of the nation’s leading wine auctioneers. His wine auction experience commenced in 1980, when he joined Christie’s to help start its Wine Department in the United States. After taking a sabbatical to pursue classical piano in the early 1990s, he returned to Christie’s and served as Director of Christie’s U.S. Wine Department from 1995 to 1998. In this capacity and in partnership with the leading American wine retailer Zachys, he was responsible for the largest auctions of wine organized to date in the United States. In 2002, he joined the prominent retailer Zachys as auctioneer for its new solo wine auction venture and continues to serve as Zachys’ principal auctioneer.

ABOUT THE SANTA FE CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

Since its inaugural festival in 1973, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival has become one of the world’s preeminent music festivals, guided by a visionary spirit and dedicated to artistic excellence and innovation. Contributing to its magic is the Festival’s unique setting, nestled amid the timeless splendors of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Under the spirited artistic leadership of composer/pianist Marc Neikrug, the Festival invites scores of distinguished musicians, along with emerging young talent, to participate in its six-week season. The Festival encourages communication among composers, musicians, and audiences through premieres of Festival-commissioned works, the programming of works by living composers, and concerts featuring the composer as performer. Since 1980, the Festival has commissioned more than 60 works from such composers as Aaron Copland, Ned Rorem, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, John Harbison, Gunther Schuller, Mark-Anthony Turnage, Steven Stucky and Brett Dean, among many others, thereby contributing significantly to contemporary chamber music repertoire.

Concerts take place in the intimate, historic St. Francis Auditorium at the New Mexico Museum of Art, The Lensic Performing Arts Center, and at Simms Auditorium at Albuquerque Academy.
