THE PLAYERS THEATRE PRESENTS “She Loves Me”
Sarasota, FL — From December 2nd to December 20th, The Players Theatre will be presenting the much-loved and heartwarming comedy She Loves Me as part of their 86th Broadway Season. Directed by Bob Trisolini, this musical is based on a play by Miklos Laszio with book by Joe Masteroff. Music is by Jerry Bock and Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. She Loves Me was nominated for five Tony Awards in 1964 and the 1994 Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. She Loves Me is widely recognized as the most charming musical ever written. Intimate and touching, this show boasts memorable songs such as “Good Morning, Good Day,” “Sounds While Selling” and “Days Gone By.” She Loves Me is a scented case of mistaken identity, with two feuding perfume clerks, Amalia and Georg. Set in 1930s Budapest, this romantic comedy is endearing with a dash of old-world elegance.
Jeffery Kin, Artistic Director, remarks, “I love the fact that The Players has never produced this gem of a musical, and after all these years…She Loves Me is finally getting its time on our stage. And… as chance may have it, it’s also currently in rehearsal to be revived on Broadway at The Roundabout Theatre in NYC. I’m not surprised it’s getting such lavish attention with its gorgeous score and beautiful storyline that spawned the now classic film “You’ve Got Mail.” It really is a musical to fall in love to!”
Regular tickets are $25 with Premium seating (Rows A-E) at $30. Full time students under 24 with valid ID are $12.
Story: When Amalia, (Michelle Anaya), convinces Mr.Maraczek, (Bob Turoff), to hire her at his Parfumerie, she and her co-worker, Georg, (Matthew Ryder), definitely do not see eye to eye, and are totally oblivious to the fact that they are in love with each other. Amalia and Georg have both been writing to a secret lonely hearts pen pal whose identity is as yet unknown. As Christmas approaches, both Amalia and Georg arrange to meet their respective pen pals. Twists and turns ensue, as Georg learns the truth about his lonely hearts “dear friend”. Lots of work place politics between Maraczek and his employees Arpad(AJ Cali) and Sipos,(Ken Basque) who also have their own love interests. Mr. Maraczek has misunderstood the truth about his wife, whom he previously believed was having an affair with Georg. All is ultimately revealed with a happy and lighthearted ending.
