Venice Theatre holds auditions for winter musicals DIRECTORS SEEK PERFORMERS FOR sweeney todd, ragtime and the rocky horror show
(Venice, FL) Directors Murray Chase, Brad Wages and Allan Kollar are seeking performers of all ages to audition for Venice Theatre’s upcoming musicals: Sweeney Todd, Ragtime and Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show. Music Directors Sheila Plummer, Michelle Kasanofsky and Eli Schildkraut will be on hand to hear vocal auditions. Dance captain Jasmine Deal will teach a short dance combination.
Auditions for all three shows take place Sunday, Nov. 15 and Monday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Performers will sing for all directors and music directors in the same room. After the vocal audition some may be asked to stay for the dance portion of the audition. Auditioners may audition for any and all of the shows that interest them; however, they can only be cast in one show due to overlapping rehearsal and performance schedules.
Interested auditioners are asked to e-mail Volunteer Coordinator Kim Kollar to make an appointment at [email protected]. Auditioners should prepare 16 bars of a song, bring sheet music for the accompanist, and dress comfortably for the dance portion of the audition. Acting callbacks will be held later that week at days and times to be announced.
More about Sweeney Todd: All roles are open for Murray Chase and Sheila Plummer’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd. 13-14 people will be cast. Strong vocal skills are required. Dance will be minimal.
Rehearsals will begin in early December and continue until opening, with a week off around the Christmas holiday. The show runs in the 90-seat Pinkerton Theatre Jan. 21 through Feb. 14, 2016.
More about Ragtime: Brad Wages and Michelle Kasanofsky are seeking a large cast of all ethnic backgrounds and ages for Ragtime. The show requires vocal and moderate dance ability from all. Wages says, “Ragtime is not just an award winning musical; it’s an Experience.” At the time of this writing the roles of Coalhouse Walker, Sarah Brown and Tateh have been cast. All other roles are open. The show runs on Venice Theatre’s MainStage Feb. 16 through March 13, 2016 including a daytime performance for schools on Friday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m.
