DANNY WOOD of New Kids On The Block fame will release his seventh studio album LOOK AT ME January 15 (Essential Media Group), with a portion of the proceeds going towards breast cancer patients. The singer-songwriter founded the “Remember Betty” foundation to honor his late mother, and their mission is to help minimize the financial burden associated with breast cancer for patients and survivors so that they can focus on recovery and quality of life.
LOOK AT ME features original deeply personal songs written and produced by WOOD, who lives in Miami and is the proud single father of three children, and cites them as a big inspiration in his songwriting. WOOD says the album’s about “life, my children, my mother, my experiences. This record is definitely a reflection of the past ten years. The good and bad. My mother’s foundation is a big inspiration in my writing. All the breast cancer patients that have passed away, survived, and the ones that are living with this disease. They all have inspired this record.” The songs are plaintive and introspective about love and loss, yet exude optimism and hope. The third single and video will be “HOLD ON”, out October 30th. It’s a soulful rock ballad that is dedicated to his mother and his hometown, Boston. The song is far removed from the NKOTB music that he is best known for. Meanwhile, you can check out a video for the new song “Endlessly” here.
WOOD broke into the music business in 1986 when New Kids On The Block released their debut album, and then found massive success with 1988’s Hangin’ Tough album, which sold over 17 million copies. The group took a break from ’94 to ’08, but continue to fill arenas today. WOOD released his first solo album in 2003, and is excited about the release of LOOK AT ME, and taking it on the road for an intimate tour of album release events, public shows and benefit concerts. He says the trek will be “Just me, a mic and my acoustic guitar. I want people to feel the record come thru live. So I will keep it stripped down and let the songs speak for themselves.”
Beyond having massive pop success with NKOTB, WOOD had a wide variety of influences growing up in Boston, MA and cites an array of pop, urban and rock acts as influences: The Jackson 5, The Stylistics, New Edition, Eric B and Rakim, Run-DMC, Aerosmith, James Taylor, Tears For Fears, Hall and Oates and The Eagles have all had an effect on the singer and guitarist.
Stay tuned for tour dates and new videos from DANNY WOOD.
