HDNET MOVIES GIVES ‘THANKS FOR HANKS’ WITH A CORNUCOPIA OF TOM HANKS COMEDY CLASSICS FEATURING ‘THE MONEY PIT’ AND ‘DRAGNET’ ON THANKSGIVING DAY STARTING AT 7:35pE
Then, Tune in for a Black Friday Two-Pack Celebrating Acclaimed Leading Man Robert De Niro in ‘MAD DOG AND GLORY’ and ‘MEN OF HONOR’ on Nov. 27 at 8pE
Los Angeles – Oct. 22, 2015 – Pass the pumpkin pie and get ready to give “Thanks For Hanks,” as HDNET MOVIES presents a night of laughs starring beloved Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks in two early big screen roles on Thanksgiving Day, starting at 7:35pE. The night begins with the real-estate-gone-wrong comedy THE MONEY PIT, starring Hanks and Shelley Long as a young couple who fall in love with an old mansion selling for $200,000.00. The price proves too good to be true, however, when the house literally begins falling apart all around them, sending the two lovebirds into a frustrated frenzy.
The block continues at 9:10pE, as Hanks and funnyman Dan Aykroyd deliver “Just the facts, ma’am!” in the 1987 buddy cop farce DRAGNET. Stepping into the shoes of iconic detective Joe Friday, Aykroyd teams up with wisecracking new partner, Hanks, to take down an Orange County-based cult they believe is responsible for a series of strange thefts. After discovering the true identity of the creepy cult’s leader, the two men must race against the clock to stop the group’s diabolic assassination scheme before it’s too late. Christopher Plummer and Dabney Coleman also star, with original DRAGNET series favorite Harry Mogran reprising his role as Bill Gannon.
Then, take a break from Black Friday madness with HDNET MOVIES’ “Double Down with De Niro” two-pack, on Friday, Nov. 27, at 8pE. The tables are turned when De Niro—notorious for his tough guy gangster portrayals—stars in MAD DOG AND GLORY as a mild-mannered crime scene photographer who saves the life of mob boss Bill Murray during a robbery. As a token of appreciation, the mobster offers his shy new pal the company of feisty bartender Uma Thurman, but things get complicated when the awkward pair slowly starts to fall in love.
And, at 9:45pE, Oscar®-winners De Niro and Cuba Gooding, Jr. deliver powerful performances in the 2000 Naval drama MEN OF HONOR. The film stars Gooding, Jr. as Carl Brashear, a young sharecropper who dreams of joining the Navy after being inspired by the heroics of De Niro’s Master Chief Petty Officer Leslie Sunday. Overcoming racism and other obstacles with the help of Sunday, Brashear rises through the ranks, setting his sights on becoming the first African American master diver in the history of the U.S. Navy.
