The Sunshine State Games, Florida’s Olympic-style Sports Festival, has been a starting point for many Professional and Olympic Athletes since its inception in 1980.
The latest is a Polk County Ultimate athlete Larz Hanselman, who began playing with a pickup team in 2007. He debuted with the Jacksonville Cannons of the AUDL this year in the team’s first season.
He credits two Sunshine State Games sport directors with assisting him along the way to the professional ranks.
“Despite being a “pro” athlete that many club teams would love to have on their roster, Larz is the same sweet guy I met back when he was in high school and didn’t have much of a clue about ultimate,“ said Kristin Deffler, the SSG Ultimate Sport Director.
