VENICE THEATRE, WHERE LEARNING LASTS!
Here’s what parents are saying about their children’s class experiences at Venice Theatre: “Because of the work that you do, my son was able to experience something that has forever changed his life and the way he looks at things”, “It is without a doubt one of the best things to ever happen to my son.”
Registration is open for Venice Theatre’s fall 2015 theatre classes. The fall semester includes classes for children and adults and most classes begin the week of Sept. 14, 2015. Classes run six to eleven weeks and will be taught by instructors Sandy Davisson, VT’s Director of Education and Outreach, Cara Herman, VT’s new Assistant Director of Education and Outreach, Becky Holahan, Gary Seddon, Preston Boyd, Michael Perez, Gladys Varga, Amy Blake, Peter Ivanov, Jan Wallace and Peter Madpak. Interested students and parents should visit www.venicestage.com, call Venice Theatre’s Education and Outreach Department at 941-486-8679, or e-mail Cara at [email protected]. Scholarships are available for qualified applicants.
The theatre will hold an education open house to assist families with registration and to give them an opportunity to meet some of the teaching team. The open house will be at the theatre located at 140 W. Tampa Ave. on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Venice Theatre offers beginning, intermediate, advanced and specialty classes for students from kindergarten through adult. For the youngest students, the theatre offers creative play classes: Telling Tales! Creative Play for K-1 and Shake It Up! Creative Play for Grade 2. Both classes are fun-filled adventures into the world of theatre that build the students’ self-confidence and social development.
For students in grades three through five and grades six through eight, Venice Theatre offers its popular Act 1: Beginning Acting, Act 2: Intermediate and Act 3: Advanced Acting. There are also specialty classes for children including Musical Motion for grades 3-8, Improvisation, and Getting Technical! Also offered is Performance Art … Anything Goes, which is by audition only on Sept. 15, 2015 at 5 p.m. From continuing to find the “actor’s voice”, to skill building techniques and exploring the back stage, these classes will be sure to further students’ creative ability.
For students 18 and older, the theatre is offering new classes for both the actor and non-actor taught by professionals in their fields. Actor offerings include Speak the Speech or Beginning Shakespeare and a stage combat workshop with Peter Ivanov. For the non-actor, back by popular demand is That Show Changed My Life …Why? or Theatre Appreciation. The first class is Saturday Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and is open to the public at no cost. Also being offered is Dinner, Discussion and Drama where students will meet at a local restaurant for discussion before viewing selected VT productions. This is an opportunity to share one’s passion for theatre with fellow enthusiasts. The cost of the tickets is included in the tuition. Another popular offering for adults is Creative Dramatics for Adults with Developmental Disabilities which builds confidence and life skills using theatre exercises. Gladys Varga will continue to teach this class. Students enrolled in both the fall and spring semester will participate in the Loveland Follies in June 2016.
Venice Theatre is now offering private lessons for students who are interested in individual one-on-one instruction. Private lessons are customized for individuals who want to advance their acting and/or musical theatre skills.
Finally, in addition to seasonal classes, Venice Theatre offers a unique Technical Theatre Apprenticeship Program (TTAP), as well as customized programs to help Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts earn theatre badges. The TTAP program is a career-track technical training program for students 16 years and older and is accredited by the Florida Department of Education. It is the ideal program for students who are interested in a career in technical theatre.
