AWARD-WINNING SINGER-SONGWRITER
CINDY ALEXANDER
TO RELEASE AN AMERICAN GIRL OCTOBER 9TH
Hotel Café Album Release Party – October 10th
Breast Cancer Survivor – Album Release Coincides with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Los Angeles, CA September 1, 2015 – Award- winning, singer-songwriter CINDY ALEXANDER, announces the release of her new EP, An American Girl, on October 9, 2015 via Blue Élan Records. A U.S. tour is expected to be announced shortly, but in advance, a Record Release Party will take place on October 10th at the Hotel Café in Los Angeles, CA. It is no coincidence that October should be the month chosen to release this American Girl’s newest work; as a survivor of Breast Cancer in 2013, CINDY is an avid supporter of awareness as an Ambassador to BreastCancer.org, encouraging women who have a first-degree relative to get advanced screening. Mammograms are important, they save lives, but women who are genetically pre-disposed need to take it a step further and consider earlier screening and an MRI. Cindy did, and is alive today because of it.
Being a natural storyteller, unafraid to tackle the most intimate subjects in song, CINDY makes connections with her audiences in an almost uncanny way. On “Play”, CINDY’s dynamic vocal range becomes evident from the first playful verse of “Wake me up I think I’m dreaming”. The hurt surrounding lost love is hauntingly apparent in her song “Monarch”, while “See You in L.A.”, an ode to her hometown, finds two people in love and vowing to meet in the City of Angels. The search for fame coupled with the struggle between sleazy compromises and a girl’s integrity is palpable throughout “Burdens and Bones”. Finally, on the title track, a cover of Tom Petty’s “American Girl,” we hear CINDY’s tender, yet powerful take on this classic song, bringing new depth to these iconic lyrics.
When asked what drives her to be the type of artist she has become, CINDY answered, “What compels me to share my creativity is what I call the ‘life of song’. It’s the journey from inspiration, that spark within, flowing though my pen to paper, from fingertips to instrument, through body and voice into, hopefully, the listener’s heart. Then, I imagine, it takes on a wholly different meaning than my own, and the journey continues. That’s the life of a song. Music is a connection, a healer, and it’s magic.”
As a performer, Cindy has won several prestigious awards including David Foster’s/NBC Star Tomorrow, L.A. Music Awards Songwriter of the Year/ Independent Pop Album of the Year, All Access Magazine’s Best Female Pop Vocalist, Just Plain Folks Song of the Year/Female Artist of the Year, L.A. Music Critic’s Best Female CD (’12 & ’14), and Comeback Artist (after winning her fight against breast cancer ’14). Yet, even with all the accolades and a prized “record deal” for winning a TV reality show, CINDY has remained independent, producing on her own JamCat Records, which partnered with Blue Élan in ‘14.
In her career, CINDY has shared the stage with John Hiatt, Bacon Brothers, America, Suzanne Vega, Joan Osborn, Rick Springfield, Beth Hart, Everclear, The Bangles, Edwin McCain, Marc Cohn, Howard Jones, Gin Blossoms, Collective Soul, Lisa Loeb, etc. She has performed on compilation cd’s alongside Sarah McLachlan (Chilled Sirens- Water Music Records), Aimee Mann (Eclectic Cafe – Water Music Records) and Norah Jones (Sunday Brunch – Treadstone Records). CINDY also appeared on the soundtrack of Sugar & Spice (Trauma Records) and her music has been featured in films (Here on Earth, Smokers, Sugar & Spice, Dorm Daze II, People I’ve Slept With, My Trip Back to the Dark Side etc.) and TV (Party of 5, Chasing Farrah, So You Think You Can Dance, VH1/MTV).
