Starlite Players readies “A Different Perspective”:
Four short comedies will run on September 10-11-12-13
SARASOTA, FL: Rehearsals are underway for “A Different Perspective,” a collection of four short comedies that Starlite Players will present on September 10-11-12-13. The evening of short plays, following the format established with plays in July and August, will be performed upstairs in The Starlite Room, 1001 Cocoanut Avenue. The comedies will feature talented theatre professionals from this area according to Jo Morello, producer. One of the plays is Morello’s own “Gene & Aggie,” but she notes that the plays were submitted to a reading committee with playwright names removed. “Gene & Aggie” was previously produced in New York City as part of the Samuel French Off-Off-Broadway Short Play Festival and at the Straz in Tampa in the Tampa Bay Theatre Festival.
“A Different Perspective” runs on Thursday-Saturday, September 10-11-12 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, September 13, 6:30 p.m. The plays are:
· “Breaking Harvard” by Nicole Cunningham. Director: Mark Woodland. Parents try to convince a dean at Harvard that their son is worthy of admission, and they have a hefty income to prove it—although it’s from a most unusual occupation.
· “Living Arrangements” by Ron Pantello. Director: Jamie Lee Butrum. The resident cat is displeased when the woman she owns brings a new beau with an ungainly dog.
· “We’re Having A Baby” by Irene L. Pynn. Director: Jamie Lee Butrum. A young married couple wants a baby in the worst way—and that may be how they get one.
· “Gene & Aggie” by Jo Morello. Director: Ken Erickson. Young playwright Eugene O’Neill is enthralled by the women he meets in a bar. She’s justifiably skeptical.
