Announces

A new live performance venue in Times Square

THE BIRDLAND THEATER

Opening Spring 2016

August 11, 2015 – Birdland Jazz Club is pleased to announce the opening of The Birdland Theater. The new convertible 100-seat venue will occupy the lower level of Birdland Jazz Club at 315 West 44th Street and open in the spring of 2016.

The venue’s eclectic programming will include cabaret, jazz, dance, burlesque, comedy and more. The Birdland Theater will also allow for an extension of the current Broadway @ Birdland programming with more performances by Broadway stars and limited-run off-Broadway productions.

Birdland owner Gianni Valenti: “We are thrilled to be one of the top jazz venues in the world. But when we welcomed Jim Caruso’s Cast Party and Broadway @ Birdland series in 2004, we began to realize the tremendous potential for bringing different types of music and performers under our banner. The Birdland Theater is the embodiment of that potential. It will be a venue where any type of entertainment can and will happen. Sharing an address with Birdland and occupying our lower level — not to mention sharing a kitchen, management, and staff — ensures that we will be able to provide the same quality ambiance and service our loyal customers have come to expect.”

The venue will be programmed by Gianni Valenti, Ryan Paternite and Jim Caruso. Due to scheduling conflicts with the construction timeline, the previous plan to name the venue in conjunction with Michael Feinstein has been changed.

The Birdland Theater will provide the full restaurant and bar services of the jazz club. The space will include new dressing rooms, bathrooms and backstage space.

The architect for this project is: Michael Rait, BR Design Associates.

Current corporate partners JBL/Harmon and Yamaha will provide the sound system and grand piano for the new venue.
