DETROIT, (August 12, 2015) – This morning, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) launched the nation’s only on-demand classical performance archive to some 5,000 inaugural members. Through Replay, music fans can stream full-length classical works on-demand in HD. Boasting more than 100 works originally performed on the orchestra’s Live From Orchestra Hall webcast series, the archive will be refreshed with new content each week during the classical season. Users simply log on to dso.org/replay to explore the new online environment.
“Thanks to Live From Orchestra Hall, lovers of great music have been able to enjoy our performances here in Detroit no matter where they may be,” said DSO Music Director Leonard Slatkin. “Through Replay, they can relive these concerts whenever they would like.”
The DSO is the first American orchestra to make its performance archive available on-demand. Prior to today, past Live From Orchestra Hall footage was only available through special encore broadcasts on dso.org/live or through YouTube clips.

We’re making our incredible DSO even more accessible to audiences…anytime, anywhere, on any device.”
Dso.org/replay is online and fully functional as of this morning with a two minute preview available to all visitors. An inaugural class of some 5,000 annual fund supporters are immediately eligible to use the new service to its full extent, and all patrons who join the annual fund with a gift of $50 or more will receive full access. Viewers can browse content by composer, date, or through a rotating series of curated playlists such as “Virtuoso Violin,” “Living Composers,” “Made in America,” and many more.
Works currently available for streaming cover virtually every era of the classical genre, including classics by Beethoven and Mozart, 20th century masterpieces and a sampling by living composers. Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, John Corigliano’s “Red Violin” Concerto, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique,” Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade are just a few.
Streaming is made possible through hosting services provided by Brightcove. This leading online video platform offers CD-quality audio and video in 1080p HD resolution.

In fall 2014 the DSO expanded their live broadcast mission to include education. Live From Orchestra Hall: Classroom Edition reached more than 100,000 students in classrooms nationwide with just two broadcasts this season.
