2015 is the 70th anniversary of
“Victory Over Japan”
The First Brass of Sarasota is putting a volunteer group of 70 trumpet players together to participate in the 70th Anniversary of “Victory Over Japan” Day on August 16th at 6:00 p.m. at the Sarasota National Cemetery. There will be a rehearsal the same day at Patriot Plaza at SNC before the service.
The 70 trumpets will play TAPS during the “Laying of the Wreath”. Some of the players will also play “The Star Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America”. Bagpiper, Gary Reinstrom will play Amazing Grace with the trumpets too.
Danny Bilyeu and his team are organizing “Keep the Spirit of ’45 Alive”. It is an entire weekend of events to honor and in memory of the veterans from WWII. On Friday there will be an opening ceremony at the Unconditional Surrender Statue in downtown Sarasota at 11:00 a.m. Saturday night is a free dinner, with entertainment, at Robarts Arena for all veterans. Sunday is the memorial service at the Sarasota National Cemetery with the laying of the wreath. (See flyer below)
The First Brass is looking for volunteers to join the band to play at this wonderful event. Please let anyone you know that plays the trumpet (even if it is not their primary instrument).
Everyone is needed and welcome!
