TEXAS RANGERS RECALL RHP ROMAN MENDEZ FROM ROUND ROCK
LHP Ross Detwiler designated for assignment
Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has recalled right-handed
pitcher Roman Mendez from Triple-A Round Rock. Mendez (#55) will be in uniform for Saturday’s
game with San Diego.
To make room for Mendez, left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler has been designated for assignment.
Mendez is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA (14.0 IP, 14 H, 4 R-ER, 5 BB, 12 SO) while allowing runs in just 2 of
13 relief appearances with the Express. Since returning from Round Rock’s disabled list on June 27,
he has worked 5.0 scoreless innings in 5 outings. The right-hander has limited PCL batters to a .125
average (2-16) with 3 strikeouts in that span. He last worked a scoreless 8th inning in Round Rock’s
5-4 victory over New Orleans last night.
Mendez was a member of the Rangers’ Opening Day roster and was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 12 relief
appearances before he was optioned to Round Rock on May 4. He issued runs in 5 of 12 games with
Texas and last worked in the majors on May 3 versus Oakland. Mendez was 0-1, 2.18 in 30 outings
in his major league debut with Texas in 2014.
Detwiler is 0-5 with a 7.12 ERA in 17 games/7 starts with the Rangers in 2015, his first season in the
organization. Texas has 10 days to trade, release, or outright Detwiler to the minor leagues.
With today’s moves, the Rangers major league roster is at 39 players.
