July 19: Nantucket Atheneum Acclaimed for her passionate, powerful performances, beautiful sound, and compelling command of her instrument, violinist Bella Hristova is a young musician with a growing international career. The Strad has raved, “Every sound she draws is superb,” and the Washington Post noted that she is “a player of impressive power and control.” Recipient of a 2013 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Ms. Hristova’s 2015-16 season features a mix of concerto, recital, and chamber music performances, as well as educational outreach activities. She showcases her wide-ranging repertoire this season as she performs ten different concertos, from Barber and Kevin Puts to Sibelius and Mozart, as well as the world premiere of a concerto by David Ludwig. Also among her engagements are encore recital performances on the Young Concert Artists Series at Merkin Concert Hall and at the Kennedy Center. Ms. Hristova has performed extensively as soloist with orchestra, including with Pinchas Zukerman and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Lincoln Center, and with the New York String Orchestra under Jaime Laredo at Carnegie Hall. She appears frequently as a chamber musician with groups such as Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Young Concert Artists Festival Week in Tokyo, Ravinia’s Steans Institute, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and the Marlboro Music Festival. Her numerous honors include First Prize in the 2009Young Concert Artists International Auditions and First Prize in the 2007 Michael Hill International Violin Competition in New Zealand. She was awarded YCA’s Helen Armstrong Violin Fellowship, and for three seasons, she has been honored with the Gordon and Harriet Greenfield Foundation Artist Management of YCA. Born in Pleven, Bulgaria, Ms. Hristova attended at the Curtis Institute of Music, where she worked with Ida Kavafian and studied chamber music with Steven Tenenbom. She received her Artist Diploma with Jaime Laredo at Indiana University in 2010. Ms. Hristova plays a 1655 Nicolò Amati violin. Taiwanese American pianist Steven Lin is an immediately engaging and imaginative young artist, applauded by the New York Times for playing that is “…immaculately voiced and enhanced by admirable subtleties of shading and dynamics”. His awards include the 2012 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition and the John Giordano Jury Chairman Discretionary Award at the 2013Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. In 2014 he was also awarded the Silver Medal at Israel’s Arthur Rubinstein Piano Competition. Mr. Lin’s featured North American recital engagements for 2014-15 include his Kennedy Center debut on the Washington Performing Arts Hayes Piano Series and recitals for Strathmore Performing Arts Center, Sun Valley Piano Festival, and Chicago’s Dame Myra Hess Series. As a concerto soloist, he will be featured in three performances with the Kansas City Symphony and Music Director Michael Stern, a return engagement with the Tulare County Symphony (CA), and performances in Australia and Taiwan, among others. A versatile musician, he performs chamber music at venues including the Louvreand Salle Cortot in France, National Dublin Hall in Ireland, Seoul Arts Center in Korea, Sendai Cultural Center in Japan, and Avery Fisher Hall in the United States. Recent recital debuts include Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and the National Chopin Foundation (Miami, FL). Mr. Lin earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees at the Juilliard School, studying with Robert McDonald and Matti Raekallio. He earned a Performance Diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music where he was the Mark E. Rubenstein Annual Fellow, graduating in 2015.
