Starlite Players debuts with five short comedies on July 15-16-17-18 in The Starlite Room
SARASOTA, FL: Starlite Players, a new performing arts troupe, makes its debut with “The Customer Is Always Right,” a collection of five short comedies, on Wednesday, July 15, at 7:30 p.m. in The Starlite Room, 1001 Cocoanut Avenue, Sarasota. Starlite Players is “a showcase for some of the outstanding, award-winning talent based in the Tampa Bay area,” according to Jo Morello, producer. “Everyone involved, whether playwrights, directors, technical crew or actors, is an experienced professional based in the Tampa Bay area.” She describes Starlite Players as “an opportunity for theatre professionals to perform before friends, neighbors and visitors in a casual, fun setting.” The troupe will perform for four evenings each month, beginning with the first set of comedies on July 15-16-17-18. They are also working on “This Isn’t What I Expected,” another group of short comedies, which will run on August 13-14-15-16.
The five plays for July are:
- A LINE OF MALARKY by Larry Parr, directed by Mark Woodland and performed by Skyla Dawn Luckey and Mary Jo Johnson.
- CUSTOMER SERVICE and NO SUGAR, both by Philip W. Hall and directed by Preston Boyd, with Ren Pearson and Delia Revard in the two casts.
- PENITENTS, written and directed by Jack Gilhooley and performed by Alison Prouty and Jeremy Guerrero
- THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES by Marvin Albert, directed by Mark Woodland with actors Jenny Aldrich Walker, Chuck Conlon and Dave Downer.
The plays are presented upstairs at The Starlite Room in an intimate, informal setting with only 58 seats and an opportunity to mingle with the cast after the show.
