The parking lot and access road for Hart’s Landing, Tony Saprito Pier and Eloise Werlin Causeway Park in Sarasota will be temporarily closed July 8 for the removal of an Australian pine tree

Staff from Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources and the City of Sarasota will coordinate the removal of the tree, which is located next Hart’s Landing. The tree poses a threat to the newly reopened building’s foundation and the dock, as well as to the stability of the shoreline, according to a report from a certified arborist. Australian pines are considered an invasive species, and their limbs are susceptible to high winds and can create a safety risk for people and property.

The Australian pine tree will be replaced with a Florida native shade tree, according to city staff.

The work is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. July 8 and last several hours. The access road will re-open when work is completed.

Hart’s Landing is located at 420 John Ringling Causeway, Sarasota.
