The Education Foundation hosted its Board of Directors Annual Luncheon on Wednesday, June 3rd at the Field Club in Sarasota. I was fortunate enough to have been invited to attend this inspiring event featuring some of Sarasota Florida’s most dedicated contributors to the well being of Sarasota youth. Foundation Chairman Kimberly Page Walker recognized retiring board members Mike Bryant and Caitlin Williams. Caitlin, as she pointed out, was very “young retiree” at just eighteen years old! She was the Foundation’s student representative and will be graduating and attending college in the fall. She never missed a Foundation Board Meeting during the years that she has been a member.
The Annual Report as detailed by Executive Director Susan Scott was truly impressive. The Foundation has raised money, in the form of grants to support Sarasota schools through the Texcellence-Digital Learning Labs which has provided computer technology for students throughout the Sarasota community. Thanks to the generosity of donors program support will continue in the coming years.
Edward Hashey, Sarasota County Teacher of the Year shared his philosophy of education and Brandon Johnson, Principal of Lamarque Elementary School commented on the success of his school in receiving the largest grant donations in the Sarasota School district. The final event was a testimonial by Sebastian Hernandez, a Texcellence Intern about his experience in the program which has been supported and funded by the Education Foundation of Sarasota County.
