TEXAS RANGERS SIGN RHP JARED BURTON TO MINOR LEAGUE CONTRACT
Right-hander will join Round Rock on Tuesday
RHP Kyuji Fujikawa becomes free agent
Bronx, NY – The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has signed free agent right-handed pitcher Jared Burton to a minor league contract. The 33-year-old Burton will join Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.
Burton was signed to a minor league contract with a spring training invitation with the New York Yankees on February 16. He was bothered by a strained lat muscle during the spring before going 0-1, 4.50 (3 ER/6.0 IP) in 4 total appearances with High-A Tampa and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Burton was released by the Yankees on May 16.
Burton is 18-19 with a 3.44 ERA and 10 saves in 367 career relief appearances with Cincinnati (2007-11) and Minnesota (2012-14). He was 3-5 with a 4.36 ERA and 3 saves in 68 games with the Twins in 2014.
In addition, the Rangers announced that RHP Kyuji Fujikawa has cleared unconditional release waivers and is now a free agent. Fujikawa was designated for assignment on May 17 and placed on release waivers on May 22.
