WHAT:
To kick off Asolo Rep’s run of Woody Sez: The Life and Music of Woody Guthrie, the theatre will host a free beer tasting event prior to the Friday, May 29 preview performance. The tasting is free for Friday, May 29 Woody Sez ticket holders. Sponsored by Gold Coast Eagle Distributing, the tasting will be held from 7 to 8pm in the lobby of the theatre. Patrons will sample beers from across the country, from California’s Green Flash, to Oregon’s Longhammer IPA, Pennsylvania’s Victory Prima Pils, Maine’s Redhook KCCO Black Lager, and New York’s Blue Point Toasted Lager.

From “This Land Is Your Land” to “This Train is Bound for Glory,” Woody Guthrie was a musical hero of legendary proportions. His energetic, moving and infectious melodies celebrated the beauty of our country, the people he met crisscrossing the nation, the history he absorbed, and the social issues of his day. In this joyous, toe-tapping and moving theatrical event, four actor-musicians perform 25 of Guthrie’s songs, play 20 instruments and celebrate the colorful life and rich musical legacy of this American icon.
