What: WINDPOWER 2015 Conference & Exhibition, the U.S. wind energy industry’s largest event all year, kicks off next week on Monday, May 18. The arrival of WINDPOWER in Orlando is timely, with the recent approval of Florida-based Gulf Power’s first contract delivering wind energy to Florida, a 20-year agreement expected to save customers between $11 and $48 million. Advancements in wind technology continue to expand opportunities for wind farms, and the benefits that come with them, to all 50 states including Florida.

Who: U.S. Secretary of Energy, Dr. Ernest Moniz, will speak for the first time ever at the conference. He is scheduled to provide comments on the morning of Tuesday, May 19.

Doug Greenholz, President of IKEA Property, Inc. will also speak at the conference on IKEA’s decision to invest in wind power.

Opening session speakers AWEA CEO Tom Kiernan and Lisa Davis, Member of the Managing Board, Siemens, will be joined by Moderator Jacob Susman, CEO & Founder of OwnEnergy, and panelists Anne McEntee, President & CEO Renewable Energy, GE Power & Water; Karen Conover, Vice President, DNV GL; Paul Gaynor, Executive Vice President of North America Utility and Global Wind, SunEdison; and Susan Reilly, President, RES Americas, and outgoing Board Chair of AWEA.

After adding 23,000 jobs in 2014 and with over $23 billion of private investment in over 100 new projects now under construction this year, the American Wind Energy Association’s (AWEA) 2015 WINDPOWER Conference and Exhibition is where all the action in the industry intersects and will be on full display.

Up to 2,000 well-paying jobs are already supported by wind power in Florida. The state is home to wind industry leaders, including Siemens and NextEra Energy Resources, and has 15 manufacturing facilities supplying wind power parts and supplies. The U.S. wind energy industry supports 73,000 jobs across the country.
