Block party to promote community health and wellness services
SARASOTA, FL – North Sarasota and Newtown-area churches are joining together for the Gospel Explosion Block Party promoting community health and wellness services on Saturday, May 23 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Greater Hurst AME Chapel on the corner of Links Avenue and 27th Street. Local health care agencies will be present to distribute information about minority health, and HIV and STD testing along with other health screenings will be available at no cost through a mobile unit operated by Community AIDS Network (CAN).
“This is going to be an exciting community affair. I’ve wanted to see our community embrace this type of event and now we are seeing this dream come together with these churches,” said Bill Carter, who works for Genesis Health Services and First Step of Sarasota as a case manager. “All of the churches will have choirs performing inspiring and uplifting songs of joy and hope that carry a positive message. We are also offering a variety of health screenings and education services, so come on out and join us.”
The event will also feature live music performances from the choirs of local churches and community groups. Families are encourage to attend and enjoy fun activities with their children. Free refreshments will be provided.
