From the Top to Receive National Endowment for the Arts Grant:

Award is among 1,023 Made Nationally

Boston, MA – Through its grant-making to thousands of nonprofits each year, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) promotes opportunities for people in communities across America to experience the arts and exercise their creativity.

In the second major grant announcement of the fiscal year 2015, the NEA will make a $45,000 award to From the Top to support educational outreach activities. Selected by audition, musicians that appear on the classical radio program From the Top With Host Christopher O’Riley will take part in the arts leadership workshops, which will help prepare young musicians to connect with new audiences, and to serve as positive peer role models. The musicians will perform concerts in school classrooms and community venues.

The NEA will make 1,023 awards totaling $74.3 million nationwide in this funding round.

NEA Chairman Jane Chu said, “The NEA is committed to advancing learning, fueling creativity, and celebrating the arts in cities and towns across the United States. Funding these new projects like the one From the Top represents an investment in both local communities and our nation’s creative vitality.”

“We are honored to receive the NEA’s recognition for our arts leadership work with young musicians, ” said From the Top Co-CEO Jennifer Hurley-Wales. “Though our NPR radio show is the most visible part of our organization, empowering our young musicians to develop their leadership skills and take music beyond the concert hall to new audiences is a critical part of our mission.”
